Now think about Matryoshka dolls, also known as stacking dolls, nesting dolls, or Russian dolls. Think about the elaborate dragon dance in some Chinese celebrations. What comes to mind is the use of color and how these color choices draw attention and stir different emotions within us.
Colors are mostly associated with objects and patterns, whereas some colors and their varying hues affect us differently. We all have favorite colors but also relate to color combinations like red and green at Christmas time.
Different colored birthstones, like zodiac signs, have long been used to describe people’s personalities.
On the other hand, colorstrology breaks down the days and months of the year into separate colors and explains their meaning, energy and best of all what to look for when decorating.
What is colorstrology
Colorstrology brings to life the colors of a person’s personality through a blend of astrology, numerology, and color theory.
The Pantone color scheme is the foundation of this art form. It is also the universal language of color for designers, brands, and manufacturers. The Pantone color scheme is commonly found in paint hardware stores.
You can really get down to the nitty-gritty of the subject and have your color chart worked out, much like an astrological reading. We want to take a broader approach and look at the colors of the months and what they represent.
Colors of the months
The months of the year are tied to seasons, depending on where in the world you are. The basis of colorstrology is founded on Western norms of the northern hemisphere. Keep this in mind when you study the colors of each month:
Colors of January: White, light blue
White universally symbolizes purity and the beginning of new things. January is the year’s first month, and New Year’s Day is a fitting celebration of a new period. Light blue is associated with snowfall and winter.
Colors of February: Cherry red, pink
February is the month of love, and romantic Cherry Red and Pink tones represent Valentine’s Day. In all respect, white should be included here too. It represents purity, and true love is pure. Cherry red is vibrant and evokes warm emotions of love and appreciation.
Colors of March: Emerald green, purple
These deep, jewel tones place the month of March as the crown jewel of cultural festivities when the days begin to get brighter and St Patrick’s Day and Mardi Gras are celebrated. Mardi Gras begins on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany (Three Kings Day). Interestingly, Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday,” which is the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before fasting during the Lenten season begins.
Colors of April: Pale yellow, grass green
April embodies the pastel-infused colors of Spring and painted Easter eggs, but it is also the time of new plant growth.
Colors of May: Cream lilac
Cream and Lilac are soft colors that represent flowers in full bloom. These delightful colors exude a sense of order and calm during nature’s glorious spectacle.
Colors of June: Pale orange, pearl
Pearl is the June birthstone, and pale orange signifies the start of warmer months. The pale orange of the sun at dusk and dawn paints beautiful images that fill one with inner warmth and a lust for life.
Colors of July: Coral, yellow
The pink-orange color of Coral brings life to July, and yellow represents energy, promise, excitement, and fun. July is a month of beautiful, carefree sunny days.
Colors of August: Burnt red, orange
When you see Burnt Red and Orange tones, you know that summer is passing and Autumn has arrived. These colors call for a time of reflection and preparation.
Colors of September: Rust, bright blue
Rust represents the changing of the leaves, which tugs at your heartstrings. Bright Blue is the color of the sky in September and is also the color of Sapphire, the September birthstone.
Colors of October: Maroon, indigo
Nature is never without color; it’s simply an ongoing transformation cycle. As the multitude of mixed hues begin to darken and the days get shorter, maroon and indigo surface to provide a decadent backdrop to the month of October.
Colors of November: Brown, gold
Brown and gold create a warm effect against the oncoming cold season. These colors will transform landscapes in anticipation of winter but will remain until the season turns again.
Colors of December: Forest green, dark red
Forest green and dark red is synonymous with Christmas, a time to spend with family and friends. It is also a time to decorate Christmas trees, buildings, and streets with colorful lights. December is a month of love, hope, and fellowship—a perfect setting to close the year off with.
Decorating your home for the seasons
The colors of the months represent nature’s cycles through the seasons. Just like you have seasonal clothing and bedding, you can also transform your home to complement nature’s transformation.
There is no need to change your furniture, which isn’t very practical to start with. Reserve certain colors and designs for the different seasons.
Blanket throws are a wonderful and easy way to spruce up your home to match the new season. Try using different colored and patterned throws depending on the season. Indulge in new blankets or throws from different cultures you resonate with.
Try rotating throw pillows to suit the time of year. Bed linen and pillowcases, as are your bath towels, are another easy change. All these small changes will keep you grounded in the present while looking forward to a new tomorrow.
They say that a change is as good as a holiday. This is so true, and to add, change also prevents stagnation.
Takeaway
Colorstrology may sound like a strange new word, but as you’ve probably gathered, it’s nothing new. It’s been around for as long as the seasons.
We learn and discover new things about ourselves every day. Color has always played a prominent role in our lives, even if we don’t always acknowledge it. We all embrace change in our ways, but what is more natural than being one with nature?
The effect that color has on you is reflected in your personality, and rightfully so.
